Lab 3: Future Del Taco Locations?

Living in Westwood, California for the past four years has been frustrating by the fact that there is no convenient Del Taco to dine at. There is practically every fast food joint imaginable in a 2 mile radius of UCLA except my favorite, Del Taco. And it is not just me who is upset by this; all of my roommates are equally angry that we cannot go to our favorite fast food Mexican restaurant without traveling at least 15 minutes to do so. Needless to say, our annoyance in the lack of a Del Taco in our area of residence led to my Lab 3 assignment, where I mapped out the Del Tacos in Los Angeles County to see where there are spots to build new Del Tacos.
To begin answering this dilemma, I looked up the address of every Del Taco in LA County and typed this data into an Excel spreadsheet. After downloading the streets of LA I was able to geocode and plot these Del Taco addresses on the map to see where there were voids in the map where no Del Taco was present within miles. The map above displays my findings.
The blue triangles are the locations of every Del Taco in Los Angeles County. The light blue areas around the Del Tacos are a 4.5 mile dissolved buffer from each Del Taco. I numbered the areas outside of the buffer zones, but within LA County, 1 through 6. These numbers display where Del Taco Restaurants should build new Del Tacos, so nobody in LA County has to live beyond 4.5 miles from a delicious Del Taco. In my personal opinion, living over 4.5 miles away from a Del Taco is very tough to cope with. I would know; I’ve been living under these conditions for four years. I hope Del Taco Restaurants will look at my lab and take my advice to build six new Del Tacos in LA County. This analysis of Del Taco could not be made possible without the Address Locator and Geocoding features of ArcMap. Thank you ArcMap for potentially ridding LA County of this current Del Taco geography gap.
